I've got a corsair hx850w psu and a CM atcs 840 case already. I've gotta order my main hardware now which was gonna be a i7 920 d0 and a Asus P6T Deluxe V2 board, but the board is on clearence where I were orderin from.
I don't get chance of a new system v often and wanted to be @ start - midway through a generation and not @ the end of one so I was wonderin if somethings around corner and worth waitin a lil bit or will I still get a decent bit of life out the setup I was gonna get? That case btw is lethal lol. I pulled me back movin it (freak thing) and g/f sliced her finger lookin @ the front pannel on the bottom, it's close to needin a stitch but not quite. It's abit like the car from that horror film atm. Gonna finish the sys, be cut to pieces, black and blue and have no fingers left to switch it on. Nice case though Cheers Jabb3r

Come on someone must know somethin. All I could find is that Intel roadmap for this years shows the successor to i7 commin out @ the end of the year. Not really thought much on AMD. Hmm...

not late at all mate. don't expect huge jumps in performance from future processors. I think the socket is here to stay for a good while and provided they do not increase the number of memory channels, Intel will have little reason to change the socket. Besides, a year from now you will be able to throw in a cheap 6 core CPU without trouble and since the memory controller is now handled by the CPU, you will find that the chipset is not a huge factor in performance.
from the looks of it, Intel and AMD are not focusing on huge performance improvements these days. Their focus is mostly on integrating graphics into the CPU and creating efficient SoC architectures. As such, we will be seeing just minor bumps in performance in the form of SSE instructions, speed bumps and architecture optimisations. Unless of course Intel or AMD have some dirty little secrets but most people in the industry doubt that. |
