Default Case Idea.... But I cant make it

Ok, I had an idea for a case, its quite a simple idea and would be built out of perspex.

This is why I cant build it because my perspex building skills are ,to be frank, PANTS!!

Basically the case design would incorporate a resevoir built in to the top of case (about an inch or two deep) with the output barb from the radiator emptying into it. It would also have a bleeder hole towards the rear of the case. Basically the whole top of the case would be a resevoir.

The mobo side panel and the front panel (possibly the rear as well) would have a 1 inch gap all around to allow the water to cascade from the top of the case down.

Then in a bottom corner near the front a small (ish) area would be the final resevoir spot with the outlet barb being connected to the pump so as not to greatly restrict the flow into the pump.

If the resevoir at the bottom is large enough and a small lip is put into the resevoir at the top you could have a waterfall type effect running down across your cd drives and floppy drive.

Whilst typing this I am not so sure about putting water down a rear panel however.

Anyone bored and got some spare perspex fancy trying this?

If not, perhaps when I have finished my current one then I will have a stab.

Sounds like a good idea. Maybe you can ask Coolmeister about it if it'll work properly?

Interesting idea, do you have a few sketches you could show us to make it a bit clearer?

I'm not sure about the waterfall idea...I find the only way to get the bubbles out of the loop is to get the reservoir as full as possible. For this waterfall idea to work you're going to need the system only slightly full as when the thing is completely full you're not going to see any water movement.

It does sound like a good idea and i remember i had similar sort of ideas after seeing Dysons Waterfall which is an amazing optical illusion just using rising air bubbles to create the effect of water travelling up hill.........brilliant

Deionised water wouldn't remain deionised for very long being open to the air plus it would pick up loads of bugs and fluff unless it was contained some how!

The water would still be a sealed system which is possibly the hard part.

I am not sure my not quite so l33t paintshop skills are up to the task of a drawing but I will give it a go, possibly tomorrow (and after a few beers) hehe

The resevoir at the base should hold enough water to prevent the system running dry/low on water. The actual water level would probably be about 1/4 of the side of the case anyway.

Then at the top where another resevoir is you would have a small lip, so it would hold about 1/2 inch of water in it and then the rest entering the reservoir would force it to flow over the top and run down the IN!-sides of the case.

you could acheve that effect with slops so the water would look like it was climbing up the side with ramps.

ill try and draw somewthing and edit this post, cos the expanation for that which i just spent 20mins typing didnt even make sence to me.

btw i was talking about the dyson thing paul was chatting about.

yea very interesting to see, but where would the air be delivered from without lots of tubes everywhere, i mean It could work, but might look very messy

concept ideas are always messy
a double wall and simple hole would do the trick

the tubes could be a feature??.

yuo could maby get away with one slope, but i dunno what angle the thing needs to be viewed from to get the best effect.

Ok, heres the diagram.

Basically you have two skins on the perspex case.

Some water will always remain at the top of the case which will help with the waterfall type effect as it passes over the lip.

There is a small resevior built in at the bottom to help with the flow into the pump (so not to restrict)

The hardest part I can see is sealing around the optical drives and the floppy drive, so that the water can cascade down and over them. (Represented by the red bits)

It could be carried on at the rear as well, but i thought that area would be best used for fans and the PSU would use such a large area that not much water will pass it anyway.
